From the growing of the tobacco leaf to the last lingering puffs of smoke, nothing about a cigar can be rushed—and that is especially true of the Tortuga, a limited-edition release from Legacy Brands that gets its name from the Spanish word for “turtle.” The 5½ × 48 cedar-wrapped Tortuga Cedro No. 5 is the newest shape. This Nicaraguan puro is hand rolled with tobaccos matured for up to five years and then aged in cedar vaults for an additional 90 days. The flavor is reminiscent of moist earth and saddle leather, yet remains surprisingly mild for an all-Nicaraguan cigar. Of course, it smokes as slowly as its namesake crawls.
