Tortuga Reserva Coyote Negro

This year’s incarnation of Victor Vitale’s Tortuga 215 line features more heft, thanks to a Nicaraguan filler blend that has been cranked up to match the strength of the cigar’s Brazilian Mata Fina wrapper. The cigar is available in three sizes: a 5½ × 54 belicoso, a 6½ × 56 toro grande, and a 7 x 60 that is best described as a large Churchill. All are individually cedar wrapped. ($8.46–$9.82)

For Starters there is no video feed because Mr. Jonathan Screwed up and lost the Ustream copy…Don’t worry Chuck will be back next week. This week Victor Vitale sits in for the whole show and discusses not only his latest cigar, the Tortuga Cedro, but we also smoke the first samples of the Tortuga Black Coyote. We heard some good news about the FDA and lots more on this week’s episode of The Cigar Authority!

Cigar Craig: In the Cigar Mojo Humidor with Victor Vitale of Legacy Brands

Tuesday evening we found ourselves, once again, at Cigar Mojo in King of Prussia PA to meet with our friend Victor Vitale of Legacy Brands. You’ve heard me mention Cigar Mojo on occasion, it’s not the closest cigar store to me, but we’ve come to feel at home there as they have a terrific humidor and lounge, and Trae and Wade, the owners, make us welcome when we visit.

FrontRunners: Box Turtle (Robb Report)

From the growing of the tobacco leaf to the last lingering puffs of smoke, nothing about a cigar can be rushed—and that is especially true of the Tortuga, a limited-edition release from Legacy Brands that gets its name from the Spanish word for “turtle.” The 5½ × 48 cedar-wrapped Tortuga Cedro No. 5 is the newest shape. This Nicaraguan puro is hand rolled with tobaccos matured for up to five years and then aged in cedar vaults for an additional 90 days. The flavor is reminiscent of moist earth and saddle leather, yet remains surprisingly mild for an all-Nicaraguan cigar.

Legacy Brands Adds Tortuga 215 Reserva Cedro Belicoso

Legacy Brands by Victor Vitale is adding a second vitola to its Tortuga 215 Reserva Cedro line that will be in retailers hands by the end of the month.

The 6 1/8 x 52 belicoso will retail for $8.69 and come in boxes of 36. It is the second of three sizes to be released under the Cedro moniker. The first vitola in the Cedro line was the No. 5 that was released in December of 2013, and all three sizes are distinguished by the fact that they are round as opposed to box-pressed like the rest of the Reserva line, as well as the addition of a cedar wrap on each cigar.

Cigar Review: Tortuga 215 Reserva Cedro No. 5

The Tortuga 215 Reserva is a cigar line launched by Victor Vitale's Legacy Brands at the 2013 IPCPR Trade Show. The Tortuga 215 Reserva is a Nicaraguan puro that was originally launched in four large box-press vitolas. Recently, Vitale announced three additional line extensions to the Tortuga 215 Reserva line - with each known as "Cedro". The first of these line extensions is a corona gorda known as the Tortuga 215 Reserva Cedro No. 5. I've recently had a chance to smoke this new vitola.
